Oh, Rapture: An Upside to the Mullally Debacle

The New York Times has confirmed that Sherie Rene Scott’s Everyday Rapture will replace Lips Together, Teeth Apart, at the American Airlines theater. If there had to be a winner in this sordid situation, I’m glad it will be Scott’s quirky little show, which won raves during its run at the Second Stage Theater last year. If you haven’t been following the Lips Together drama, that show was postponed indefinitely when Megan Mullally dropped out after failing to have comedian Patton Oswalt replaced as her co-star. Before turning the page on the whole mess, let me just voice my hope that Oswalt’s next project – whatever it is – is a critically acclaimed box office smash, just to prove Mullally and all the haters wrong. His 2009 movie Big Fan, about an obsessed New York Giants fan who lives at home with his mother, got great reviews so he seems to have it in him.
